We are delighted to announce that the second phase of our Timetable Management Platform project with Stagecoach has been successfully rolled out across all of its UK regional operating companies. It builds on a relationship that began with TransXChange Studio and now reaches every system that depends on Stagecoach’s timetables.
Where phase one left off
Phase one brought timetable data from Stagecoach’s scheduling system into the platform, where it is ingested, validated and version-controlled. From that managed record, the platform also created the GTFS data behind Stagecoach’s journey planner. The TransXChange data for the Bus Open Data Service (BODS), however, still went there directly from the scheduling system – so two separate routes carried the same timetable to the outside world.
What phase two adds
In phase two, the platform receives a richer data stream from the scheduling system, and Elydium has taken over the creation of TransXChange data for:
- the Bus Open Data Service, in the profile BODS requires;
- Stagecoach’s AVL system, in the profile that system expects;
- Stagecoach’s data warehouse.
Every export is now produced from the same validated, version-controlled record, and the platform guarantees that they are consistent with one another. Whether it is a passenger checking a journey planner, a controller watching the AVL system or an analyst querying the warehouse, everyone is looking at the same timetable.
The Stagecoach team have a name for the result: “Gold Standard” TransXChange.
Working with our partners at Elydium we now have a single source of truth for Bus Open Data, AVL and Journey Planning, this innovative approach will ensure our data is correct and provided in a timely manner, it will improve the experience that our customers receive.
It’s great to see something that started as an idea, delivered and making a real difference to my colleagues and our customers.
Three years ago Stagecoach trusted us to check its timetable data. Today we create it for every system that depends on it. That is a big step, and we are proud the Stagecoach team have taken it with us.
One timetable, one truth
One timetable, published consistently to every system that needs it, is the idea at the heart of the Timetable Management Platform – and Stagecoach is now running it at group scale.
